Tips for Creating Your New Year’s Theme Word in 2017

Well, here we are 7 days into 2017!  Are you still feeling good?

Personally, I’ve never been one to set a New Year’s resolution.  First of all, why wait until the new year to start making changes and living a better life?  Also, I just don’t like the word “resolution.”  The word literally means solving a problem (solution) again and again (re-solution).  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to keep solving the same problem over and over again.  That sounds like the definition of insanity to me.  I’m interested in real change.  And transformation.

Theme in 2017

So in lieu of a resolution, I’ve decided to create a theme for 2017.  I’ve chosen a word that is going to guide me on my way through the year and I couldn’t be more excited for my word this year!

But before I share my theme for the year, I’d like to provide you with some tools to discover your own theme.  What is something that you want to manifest in the new year?  Don’t think of it as something that is missing from your life, but instead, think of some aspect of yourself you’d love to reconnect with this year.

Finding Your Theme in 2017

Many of my clients have found this short clarity meditation to be extremely helpful.  By doing this eleven-minute meditation you can drop into yourself and start to uncover and rediscover your destiny for this year.  Be sure to create a sacred space, light a candle or some incense, dim the lights, turn off your phone and take a moment to reconnect with your inner guide.

Look it up: Once you’ve centered yourself you may want to look over this list of words and carefully consider those words that call out to you.  Look up the meaning of some of your favorites by typing them into a couple different online dictionaries.  You might be surprised by the deeper meanings of some of the words we use each day.  Have fun with the process.  Pretty funny, but it was an entry on Urban Dictionary that convinced me I had finally chosen the perfect word!

Declare it: Now that you have chosen your theme for 2017—or maybe it feels like it chose you—it’s time to declare it! Share it with people in your circle, or post it to Facebook, or climb to the peak of the nearest mountain and shout it at the top of your lungs.  Seriously though…if I was still living in Colorado I would take a hike up…

Print it out:  Put reminders around your space to keep your theme present in your everyday life.  Print it on some pretty paper and place it on fridge and in your car.  Take a picture of it and save it as your phone’s home screen.

The beauty of choosing a theme is you can return to it as the year goes on.  Or when a situation arises and you need it the most.  You will feel yourself being pulled in the right direction and you won’t fall into the trap of feeling guilty with the smallest slip-up.  Isn’t a theme so much better than a resolution?

And now it’s time for the big reveal!

The theme I have chosen for the year is 2017 is Lionhart!

One thing I’ve been working through lately in my meditation practice is fear.  Committing to my coaching business full time is going to take lots of courage and determination.  And this theme will help me transform the lives of my clients and our communities.

Before I go I wanted to share the urban dictionary definition that left me in tears.  Here it is:

Lionheart: Constantly challenging oneself. Taking every single opportunity without regrets. Learning, developing and seeing beauty in all kinds of moments in life no matter how big/small they may be. Knowing what you’re worth, treating yourself like you deserve to be treated. Simply, just being you and being brave. Like a lion, you know, what fight for what you stand for. A Lionheart would never give up on its dreams.

Now it’s your turn

Create some quiet space to tap into what’s missing in your life. And share it with me!  I would love to hear what you’re creating this year, so I can hold that space for you.

Big love! Jenner
