#11 Empowerment, Poetry, and fashion with Lisa Harris//Powerful Questions w/Jenner
This week, I welcome Lisa Harris to the show. Lisa has defined strategies, guided product development, and lead marketing campaigns for over 18 years in corporate America.
Currently, her mission is to inspire and support women and help them reach their highest potential. Her new project—Unveiled Beauty: Cultivating You—is a women’s empowerment series. She is also the creative director of Fashion Meets Poetry and author Unveiled Beauty: Handwritten Stories from a Poetic Heart.
But before we get to the show, I want to share some exciting changes going on at Lotus and Sage. First, after a conversation with today’s guest, Lisa Harris I am going to take the plunge and launch a new
First, after a conversation with today’s guest, Lisa Harris I am going to take the plunge and launch a new website: JennerLinden.com The new site will do a better job of showcasing the joy and fun that are part of my brand and my coaching sessions. I’ve known the name change was coming for a while, and now was the time to make the change.
The new site will do a better job of showcasing the joy and fun that are part of my brand and my coaching sessions. I’ve known the name change was coming for a while, and now was the time to make the change.
With the new site, I will also be putting additional focus on my work as a business coach. I’ll still be meeting with clients as a life coach, but I want to share my expertise in this business arena as well.
Also, I’ve provided a little sneak peek about my “11 Pillars” system and my “Unstuck” program that you will be hearing more about in the near future. “Unstuck” will launch in the middle of July, and this first round will be done live.
In part one of my conversation with Lisa, we discuss her creative process and her early interest in poetry.
After Lisa left the corporate world she went through three stages. At first she was able to slow down and do some self-discovery work, but six months later she found herself the most depressed she had been in her adult life.
When she turned back to poetry she found it incredibly healing. As she neared the age of 39 a very good friend encouraged her to write a book. Additionally, she was unable to shake the thought of her children never knowing their mom was a poet and only discovering her work after she had passed.
The title Unveiled Beauty was in part inspired by her interest in fashion and fashion photography. The book features photographs of everyday women in high fashion photographs juxtaposed with her very emotionally raw poetry about heartache and women’s issues.
Lisa shares a powerful poem—My X Chromosome and Me—and I asked her about a particular stanza focusing on body image and the media.
Lisa’s advice is to dig deep and uncover your true self. It can be difficult to find time to do that with all that modern women need to get done in a day, but it’s to take time for yourself even if it is just in the shower or in the car.
The first part of our conversation touches on a number of topics including Lisa’s creative process, her experience growing up in rural Wisconsin, and exploring her cultural identity in college.
Now, go get BIG!
